Places to go in Chopta : The Mini Switzerland of India
Chopta Hill Station is in Uttarakhand Chopta is a small region of meadows and evergreen forest area which is a part of Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary located in Uttarakhand. Chopta is also referred to as Mini Switzerland for its meadows and lush green pastures is located on an altitude of 2700 meters. Chopta is rich in flora and fauna with dense forests around and a variety of Rhododendron and Deodar trees.
Tungnath is the best scenic place you must not skip while in Chopta It is the highest Shiva temple in the world. Tungnath is situated at an altitude of 3680 meters. Tungnath is also one of the famous five Panch Kedar shrines of Uttarakhand. One can trek to reach here, but it is one of the easiest treks recommended for beginners.
Madhyamaheshwar Mandir Lord Shiva’s stomach is worshipped in Madhyamaheshwar Mandir by devotees. It is situated at an altitude of 3200 m above sea level. The temple is surrounded by the snow-covered Himalayas from one side and alpine green meadows from the other.
How to Reach Chopta Reach Rishikesh via bus or train and take shared cabs and buses to Ukhimath (40 kms from Chopta). There is no direct transportation and it will take you a day to reach Chopta from Rishikesh. It is located on Rudraprayag – Ukhimath – Gopeshwar route.
When can you visit Chopta The best time to visit Chopta is in April – November. As for the trek to Tungnath-Chandrashila, you can plan a trek from April to June and then in September to November to enjoy the pleasant and crisp spectacular views with flawless skies.
