NEW DELHI: Like mother, like daughter. Isha Ambani, taking a cue from her mother, Nita, wants to empower women, with some help from the family telecom arm, Jio.
On Monday, Jio - which Mukesh Ambani earlier said was Isha's brainchild - announced a partnership with GSMA's Connected Women Initiative to bridge the gender gap in digital adoption and literacy among women in India. The joint venture is designed to help empower more women with increased access to, and use of, life-enhancing digital services. It will also help women overcome hurdles that they face in accessing and using mobile internet and mobile money services.
“The rapid growth of mobile and internet technologies over the past decade offers an incredible opportunity to empower women and transform lives with increased access to information and education, aiding financial inclusion and providing life-enhancing services and employment opportunities," Isha Ambani, Director, Reliance Jio Infocomm, said, while outlining the telecom player's thrust on digital inclusion.
Thanks to JioPhone, which is priced at Rs 501, several first-time mobile users have been brought in the fold of digital life. Jio has also partnered with several Government-led initiatives to digitally empower millions of women in the country.
The Stanford graduate has been a part of Jio from the time of its inception, and has been seen at all official events by her father's side. In 2008, Isha was ranked second on the Forbes' 'Youngest Billionaire Heiresses' list.
