A Filipino senator claims to be Thanos’ wife, poses like Avengers: Infinity War villain for pics
Days after tweeting about Thanos’ visit to the Philippines in Avengers: Infinity War - some of Josh Brolin’s scenes were shot there - Filipino senator Nancy Binay has claimed to be the Mad Titan’s wife.
On May 5, Binay first posted pictures of herself gazing out at serene fields in a recreation of Infinity War’s final scene, in which a content Thanos reflects on his journey. The scene was shot in the town of Mayoyao in Ifugao, which is where Binay posed for her pictures.
But a week later, while attending a party -- with a Viking crown on her head, Binay told those in attendance that she was Thanos’ wife, reported ABS-CBN News.
It is unclear if Binay has actually seen the film or is just capitalising on its popularity for Filipino tourism.
In the comics, Thanos’ is in love with Death - an actual character - whom he tries to impress on several occasions, to mixed success.
In Infinity War, Thanos sets off on an epic quest to unite the six Infinity Stones, which when embedded in the Infinity Gauntlet can make the wearer the most powerful being in the universe. Thanos weaponises the gauntlet to eviscerate half the universe’s population by snapping his fingers, which also takes the lives of half the Avengers.
According to the film’s directors, the Russo Brothers, the film is told through Thanos’ perspective, and much of his character’s arc resembles a traditional hero’s journey. Josh Brolin played Thanos through motion capture in the film, and will reprise his role in Avengers 4, due out in 2019.
Infinity War continues is box office dominance well into its third week of release. The film has made over $1.6 billion worldwide - the biggest haul for any Marvel movie ever.
