Wasim Akram picks Sunil Gavaskar as his most prized wicket, hails his technique as 'right on top'
New Delhi: Pakistani legend Wasim Akram would any day make it to the all-time XI squad of the best of cricketers. The seamer, who was a nightmare for batsmen with his unplayable swinging deliveries, has picked a batsman whose wicket he cherished the most.
“I have bowled at many great batsmen but my prize wicket will remain as that of Sunil Gavaskar, one of the greatest openers. If anyone is keen to learn proper batting technique, then one should watch Gavaskar who batted without a helmet and was always right on top,” The King of Swing was quoted as saying by Gulfnews.
Wasim also lauded the current Pakistani team and said it was moving in the right direction under the captaincy of Sarfraz Ahmed.
“Pakistan is in the right direction. We have a good young leader in Sarfraz Ahmad. Some say Sarfraz shows his emotions, but remember, he is young and he is learning. It is difficult to hide your emotions when things are not going well. You learn to hide it with experience. With time he will become an ideal captain. He is very involved and leads from the front and that is why he is doing so well as a leader,” Wasim added.
Recently, talking on the issue of Indo-Pak cricketing ties, Wasim was of the opinion that politics and sport should be kept separate.
Quoted as saying to Geo TV, Akram said, “I don't think ICC has the power to pursue BCCI, but again I have always said people to people contact is necessary. Politics and sport should be separate.”
“A Pakistan India match is more fun to watch than the Ashes. 20 million people watch the Ashes while a Pakistan India match is watched by a billion people,” Wasim added.
