The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday cleared a proposition which will permit universities to set up a seat to advance the beliefs of Deendayal Upadhyaya, one of the originators of Bharatiya Jan Sangh, the prior symbol of the BJP, sources said.
A proposition to make a seat for the sake of Upadhyaya, a key RSS ideologue, came up in the meeting of the Commission hung on Wednesday and was endorsed, they included.
So far UGC has set up seats for the sake of 29 identities including Mahatma Gandhi, and Motilal Nehru, father of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. A specialist panel of five individuals was framed for this reason a year ago and in its meeting that occurred on December 2, 2016 it had passed a determination went for guiding colleges to set up the seat.
Authorities affirmed that the UGC would bear the costs for this seat and that colleges can now send their recommendations for it. "By and large a few seats are constituted for the sake of a man. Focal and state colleges will be permitted to send their proposition and an official choice will be taken by the UGC," said a source.
The board of trustees had chosen to set up Swami Dayanand Saraswati Chair in Central University of Haryana, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Chair in Central University of Punjab, Swami Dayanand Saraswati Chair in Annamalai University and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Chair in Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University.
