WhatsApp gets great new feature which will make your chats even better

WhatsApp is bringing its Android app in-line with the iPhone version by adding a new video feature

WhatsApp continues to be one of the most-used messaging clients in the world. The Facebook-owned chat app is keen to stay ahead, so new features are added frequently.

Latest on the list is a feature that allows users to watch shared videos in a small window in the main chat client. That means you can carry on chatting with friends while enjoying videos they send.

Videos sent from some sources will automatically appear in a pop-up. For example, if you share a link through YouTube you'll see the video play in the little pop-up window.

However when we tested it we noted that links pasted from YouTube didn't work in the same way, instead opening the YouTube app to play.

Eagle-eyed WhatsApp users may notice that this feature rolled out some time ago on iOS devices, but the new update adds it to Android devices too.

This method of staggered feature roll-outs might frustrate some people - the stickers launch infuriated some who could be sent, but not send stickers.

An update to WhatsApp's desktop app is also expected to add support for this picture-in-picture video feature too.

Most users should see the picture-in-picture feature immediately, as it was a server-side update. Once the company switched it on, most people should be able to use it - as long as their app was running the latest version.

If you can't see videos in a picture-in-picture window then you may need to manually update WhatsApp. Sometimes Google Play can take a while to work out you're not on the latest version.

It's often worth opening the Play Store and searching for WhatsApp to see if there's an update waiting. On some phones app updates don't always get pushed out the minute they're available.
