Eminent historian of history Prof Irfan Habib said Padmavati was a character in the book Padmawat composed by Malik Mohammad Jaisi in Bhaktikal, which has no association with history by any stretch of the imagination.
"Jaisi had penned it (the book) amid Akbar's rule around 1550 AD, wherein he had said Alauddin Khilji. Yet, Khilji existed from 1296 to 1316," he said.
