Indian Oil Corporation, the Indian state-owned oil and gas company had earlier announced a unique service for its consumers, wherein the agency had promised a home delivery of fuel on demand in India. First initiated in the state of Maharashtra, the service has now been started in Chennai, supplying commuters in the city with doorstep delivery of fuel.

More than individual vehicles, the service is poised to help commercial fleets which would have a large number of diesel vehicles. For this, a dedicated diesel dispenser, which looks just like the regular one used at fuel pumps, will be traversing the roads. The service is aimed to save time and efforts of such large fleet consumers. In addition to the commercial fleets, the service will also help those in an emergency to get their vehicle moving. It can also act as a big plus for those staying in remote areas with limited access to fuel pumps for refueling.

The one-of-a-kind service by Indian Oil Corporation will be accessible by customers through a mobile application but only for a minimum order of 200 liters. As for those availing more than 2500 liters, the customers will need a PESO license for storage.

Indian Oil Corporation aims to eliminate the chances of unsafe handling of fuel, unnecessary fuel spillage and also pilferage through the service, as per a report by AutoCar. The ordered fuel will be dispensed in a geofenced area, which will be demarcated with safety cones. The dispenser is also equipped with fire extinguishers in case of any mishap.

The initiative by Indian Oil Corporation can be a great start to eliminate the inaccessibility of fuel in remote areas of the country, i.e. once the network is widespread and is adopted in other states.

A similar initiative for mobile electric charging ports was recently initiated by New York City, with 50 new portable charging ports being placed throughout the city which garner energy from the sun through solar cells mounted at the top.
