Goa by-election results: Goa Chief Minister Mohan Parrikar wins Panaji seat by a margin of 4,803 votes
Panaji: Former union defence minister and current Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday enlisted a pounding triumph in Goa get together bye-election from the Panaji body electorate by an edge of 4,803 votes.
Parrikar, who polled 9,862 votes, beat his closest opponent Congress` Girish Chodankar, who got 5,059 votes. Anand Shirodkar of the Goa Suraksha Manch came a removed third surveying 220 votes.
Not long after Parrirkar and Vishwajit Rane's win, PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter and complimented them. He wrote,"Congrats to Manohar Parrikar and Vishwajit Rane for the noteworthy wins in Panaji and Valpoi individually. I thank the people of Goa for their support."
Conversing with columnists after the triumph, Parrirkar said that he was expecting his win. "Winning by such edge is incredible. The general population are astute. I would leave from the Rajya Sabha in the coming week," the CM included.
Parrikar returned to state legislative issues after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in spite of not being the single-biggest gathering in the state, went ahead to frame the legislature with the assistance and partnership of Independents and other little gatherings.
