Friday, February 22, 2019 IST
The Indian Premier League will hold its 12th season in 2019 and it is now confirmed that the league will start from 23 March. The league was earlier organised in the months of April-May but has been preponed due to the
ICC World Cup 2019 which will begin from the last week of May.
The
IPL 2019 schedule has only been released for the first two weeks due to the looming General Elections in April and May. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore are set to lock horns in the opening match of 2019 IPL at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Although India are holding their General Elections in 2019, the IPL has not been shifted overseas which was the case in 2009 and 2014. Since the complete league is to be held in India, there are a lot of sponsors who see this as a tremendous marketing opportunity in two big tournaments — IPL in India and World Cup in England & Wales.
A lot of sponsors have already joined in the broadcast category such as Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki, Swiggy, Big Bazar, Polycab Wires, Dream11, MakeMyTrip, Voltas, MRF and Samsung QLED television. These brands have joined as the Associate Sponsors in the broadcast category while the Flipkart owned Phone Pe is one of the main sponsors for Star Sports this season, the other being Thums Up. Star Sports continues to remain the official broadcaster of the IPL.
The major partners in the Digital Streaming Category are Tata Nexon, FBB and Star Plus. The Coca-Cola Company, Amazon Pay, Swiggy and Dream 11 have also signed deals as the Co-Presenting sponsors during the live streaming of the league events. The other brands such as Maggi (owned by Nestle), Flipkart and Maruti Suzuki have joined as the Associate Sponsors in the streaming category.
So far more than 20 different brands have joined hands with IPL for the 2019 season as this season of the IPL has been speculated to be one of the biggest seasons. Also, the title sponsorship is still held by the Chinese brand Vivo and Paytm is the Umpire partner of IPL. Ceat has retained its position as the Strategic Time Out partner as well.
