Basirhat violence: BJP MPs including Meenakshi Lekhi arrested while trying to enter riot-hit Basirhat
Police captured three MPs of a BJP central team involving Meenakshi Lekhi, Om Mathur and Satyapal Singh while they were headed to Basirhat on Saturday morning.
The group was stopped at Michaelnagar close Dum airplane terminal, a similar spot where the police captured a state BJP team on Friday.
Cops refered to prohibitory requests in various parts of Basirhat sub-division to keep Lekhi's group from continuing to the zones scarred by collective conflicts this week.
"It's weird. You are asserting that the circumstance is under control. However you are keeping us from going," Lekhi was heard telling the cops.
Independently on Saturday, the BJP took out a dissent rally in Kolkata against the brutality that has shaken Basirhat.
"We will go to Basirhat and address the general population. We will discover the circumstance there and the inconvenience that local people are confronting," Lekhi had told the media after she arrived in Kolkata.
