The Disaster Management Unit said they received information from Vanrai Police station regarding incident about a girl drowned in Metro work pit in WEH.
The girl, Sheetal Mhatre, was declared dead after she was found lying by her parents on June 10 and taken to trauma care centre in Jogeshwari.
"We have registered an Accidental death report in the matter. The incident took place on Sunday when the girl had gone to buy chocolate, however, when she did not return even after few minutes, the parents went to search her and found the girl lying in the pit," said Jyotsna Rasam Senior PI Vanarai Police station.
RA Rajeev, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA said, "The incident is unfortunate. Let the police first investigate the reason of death. Action will be taken based on police report."
Dilip Kawathkar, spokesperson of MMRDA said, "Proper investigation will be done, and action will be taken against the guilty."
Construction work of Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro-7 corridor is ongoing on WEH for which Metro barricading was installed since almost two years now.
Meanwhile, Harban Singh Bava, Medical Superintendent, Trauma Care Centre Hospital in Jogeshwari was not available for comment.
