Who is Aishe Ghosh?

NEW DELHI: Soon after Delhi Police named her among nine suspects for violence in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus last week, the JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh on Friday refuted the claims and challenged the probe agency to show proof of her involvement in the violence.

Ghosh, who was also injured in the violence, said the students' protest would continue in a non-violent and peaceful manner.

Hailing from Durgapur in West Bengal, Ghosh is currently pursuing MPhil/PhD from JNU's School of International Relations.

Ghosh, a member of the Students' Federation of India (SFI), became president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) in September 2019. She won 2,313 votes of the total 5,728 votes. Earlier, she was also elected as councillor for School of International Studies for two terms.

Aishe was the first JNUSU president from SFI after 13 years.

Ghosh pursued her bachelors in Political Science from Delhi University.

Since her election as JNUSU president, Ghosh led students' protests on issues like fee hike and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Aishe's parents, Debashish and Sharmistha, have always supported her. While speaking to TOI after attack on her daughter in the JNU campus, Aishe's mother said she was proud of her daughter.

"I am proud of my daughter. She is a fighter and will continue her struggle," said Sharmistha.
