Prada Will Finally Ban Fur On All New Designs From 2020
Friday, June 14, 2019 IST
The giant designer company Prada has claimed that it wouldn’t produce clothes made of fur anymore, starting from 2020. This doesn’t really come as a shock all around, because they have now joined a growing list of clothing designers who have been pressurized by Animal Rights advocates into not using fur. Although items that have been previously made of fur, would remain available in the market.
Miuccia Prada, the head of the company announced that Prada was dedicated to social and cultural innovation, and this step of a fur-free policy comes as a collaboration with the Fur Free Alliance, especially with LAV, and by extension, the Humane Society of the United States.
After this, the animal rights movement is seeking to enforce upon Prada and other companies the need to ban all the exotic skin like alligator or leopard. In fact, PETA has purchased many stock in the company, to have a say in the shareholders meeting where it might have a vote in the proceedings.
Although Prada has previously experimented with many substitutes of fur, utilizing materials from the teddy bear manufacturers Steif, environmentalists are of the opinion that such materials contain microplastics, which would take a long time to degrade, and break down in the environment, all the while wreaking havoc in the marine ecosystem.
It’s time for the companies to think out better alternatives in their R&D facilities that will be both attractive to humans and harmless for the planet.
