Disney chief Bob Iger recently said that the Avengers franchise would continue after the ‘significant conclusion’ of 2019’s Avengers 4, suggesting that Marvel could potentially mine from over 7000 unexplored characters. One of those characters, according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, is Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel.
In a recent interview to the BBC, Feige confirmed that the studio is actively planning a Ms Marvel movie after Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is released in 2019. In the comics, Ms Marvel is inspired to become a hero because of Captain Marvel, thus the similarity in her choice of name. Feige said that Larson is currently filming Captain Marvel. The studio’s first solo female superhero movie will introduce fans to Carol Danvers, a pilot who turns into Captain Marvel after an encounter with an alien. Captain Marvel is rumoured to have a large role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) future, following the events of Avengers 4.
Responding to a tweet about Kamala Khan’s potential MCU debut, fans immediately started casting the role. At the top of the list was Priyanka Chopra. While not everyone was on board with this choice, several fans agreed that her South Asian heritage could be important for Marvel. Others pointed out that the character should be played by a Pakistani American actor.
Priyanka has history with the role. She has voiced Kamala Khan in a Marvel mobile video game.
Infinity War, the 19th film in the MCU, continued its record-breaking box office performance in its third weekend, staying at the number one spot worldwide thanks to a stunning $200 million debut in China.
