India's first women-only liquor store in Delhi provides safe alcohol-buying experience for ladies

Delhi is considered unsafe for women because of increasing number of cases associated with crime against women. However, many are trying to change this image of Delhi and taking steps to make the capital's environment safe and women-friendly.

Usually a liquor store in India is almost off-limits for a woman but a special liquor store in East Delhi's Star City Mall is attracting a lot of attention from women for its intriguing orientation- women only. The store which was opened in October 2015 offers a safe environment for women to browse around and purchase from a wide variety of wines, beer and champagnes.
Talking to the iamin team, the owner of the shop, Umesh Saxena said that he has been in the alcohol business for years and he has consistently noticed one thing, that is, women customers usually hesitate to buy alcohol from the stores. Therefore, in order to build a safe and comfortable environment for women where they can buy their favourite alcohol with ease Saxena came up with the idea to open a women-only store.
Talking about her experience in the new store, one of the customer said, "I am currently studying. When I was not aware of this store, I had to be dependent on my friends but now I come and purchase the alcohol by myself."
