Amitabh Bachchan Escapes Accident As Rear Wheel Of His BMW Comes Off.
Amitabh Bachchan had a narrow escape with an accident after the rear wheel of his car got detached in Kolkata. The Indian film icon was attending the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival on November 10 and was heading back to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose airport on Saturday November 11, to catch his flight to Mumbai.
Mr Bachchan was travelling with West Bengal state minister Subrata Mukherjee when the rear left rear wheel of the car wobbled and was detached from the vehicle. Contrary to reports, the car was a BMW that was transporting the actor and not a Mercedes-Benz involved in the incident and was provided by a travel agency.
The incident took place on Dufferin Road in Kolkata on Saturday morning. The BMW was provided by a travel agency, which is in charge of providing transportation for the actor across the city. A senior official of the state secretariat told PTI that, "The car was provided by a travel agency and we have show-caused it over the incident." Further investigation revealed that the vehicle's "certificate of fitness" had expired a while back, but the car continued to be in use.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident and Mr Bachchan was taken to the airport in Minister Subrata Mukherjee's car that was following the BMW.
It isn't clear as to what was the reason for the rear wheel to wobble and then detach. The matter is currently being investigated by the Kolkata authorities. PTI also reported that "proper action" might be taken against the travel agency if "any fault" on their part is found.
