In the much-anticipated biopic Sanju, Sanjay Dutt, played by an eerily-similar looking Ranbir Kapoor, proclaims: "Where else would you find a life with so much variety - a drunkard, a pervert and .. a drug addict". It is true. You will be hard pressed to find such a drama-filled life, even in cinema.
Sanju's trailer kicks off with Ranbir Kapoor saying “Main bewra hoon, tharki hoon, drug addict hun, sab hun, but terrorist nahi hun (I am drunkard, pervert, drug addict and everything, but not a terrorist)." It is a menu card to the topics that the movie, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, promises to cover. Going by the trailer, the character seems to have no qualms in speaking about his personal life, including the number of affairs he has had. From his jail sentence to a career filled with hits and misses, the trailer covers the whole gamut of Dutt's life.
Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt seems to have bared his soul in the movie. In one of the most intense scenes in the trailer, Sonam Kapoor's character -- one of Sanju's many paramours -- yells," Where is my damn mangalsutra", to which an obviously high-as-a-kite Sanju pulls out the toilet seat cover and garlands her with it. Yes, you heard that right. One might question the authenticity of the drama depicted in the movie, but nevertheless it promises to be worth a watch just for Ranbir's performance.
The film also takes a dig at Dutt as an actor, known for his tardiness in movie sets. In a hilarious clip, Dutt says to the director that he is late as he is stuck in traffic, he even honks his stationary car's horn!
The movie also features Paresh Rawal as Sanju’s father Suneel Dutt, Manisha Koirala as Sanjay Dutt’s mother Nargis, Vicky Kaushal as his best friend. Also among the cast are Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, Jim Sarbh and Boman Irani. The film is slated to release on June 29.
