Top luxury cars to be launched in 2019

The European carmakers had a busy 2018. The German trio – Audi BMW and Mercedes-Benz – introduced new models, rejigged their portfolio and updated the current model. Meanwhile, Porsche and Land Rover had an eventful year too. And they all will be getting most of it to our shores in 2019.  So here is a comprehensive list of all the luxury cars coming to India in 2019.

The Q3 has entered into its newest avatar and the crossover has grown in size with inspiration from the Q8. The cabin is the most modern iteration from Audi too. The Q3 is a successful model for Audi in India and the new one should continue its story in the country.

Audi A4 Facelift

The A4 received a mid-life facelift in July 2018. The update includes revised body-panels and styling to keep things fresh until the new-gen arrives. It will compete with the new 3 Series and updated C-Class in India upon its arrival.

The new-gen A6 is almost as big as the older A8 and is festooned with all the features and comfort expected from a mid-level executive sedan. The new A6 will be locally assembled at Skoda’s Aurangabad factory where all MQB models are made.

The Q8 is the new behemoth from Ingolstadt. The flagship SUV is basically a more stylish and expensive version of the Q7. It debuted the new design language for Audi’s Q line-up and with underpinnings of the Urus and Cayenne, which means it possesses similar capable.

Audi A8 L

As with all flagship sedans, the A8 is the technological tour de force from Audi. It comes with Level 3 autonomous capability and is Audi’s most luxurious offering in the leagues of 7 Series and S-Class. It will be launched in India in the LWB version.

BMW’s ‘SAV’ (Sports Activity Vehicle) entered into its fourth generation. The G05 X5 is bigger, more feature loaded and more stylish. Based on the new CLAR platform, the X5 has grown in dimensions and is more capable than before.

BMW X4

After the short-lived first-gen, BMW introduced the new-gen X4. And unlike the first-gen, the G02 X4 is India-bound. The coupe-SUV will rival the GLC43 AMG in India and will be a stylish alternative to the plain Jane X3. Pricing is expected to be around Rs 50-55 lakhs.

The flagship SUV from Bavaria is the all-new X7 and it has the largest Kidney grille ever seen on a BMW. The X7 has all the luxuries of the 7 Series but with the girth of a full-size SUV. Taking the CBU route to India, the X7 will like carry a price tag between Rs 90-95 lakhs.

BMW 8 Series Coupe

BMW resurrected the iconic 8 Series moniker with the new flagship coupe. The 8 Coupe is powered by a 4.4-litre V8 producing 530bhp and 750Nm. There’s also a diesel with a 3.0-litre straight-six motor producing 320bhp and 680Nm. And the new 8 is a looker as well.

BMW Z4

Co-developed with the Toyota Supra, the new-gen Z4 Roadster uses a soft-top roof. The Kidney grille gets a new mesh design and behind it, sits a 3.0-litre straight-six pushing out 335bhp/450Nm. Its 0-100kmph time is 4.6 seconds and the electric soft-top can be opened/closed in 10 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class

The all-new GLE-Class sits on a lighter platform, with the new Mercedes-styling. It will also be carrying the signature hidden D-pillar. The new GLE will continue where the older model left off in terms of sales and preferences in the Indian market.

Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

The GLC is the highest selling model in Mercedes-Benz India’s portfolio. A mid-life update is underway and will be revealed early next year before making its way to India in late-2019. Moreover, India-made GLC-Class will also be exported to the American market.

Land Rover Evoque

The second-generation of Baby Rangie comes with a new styling inspired by Velar, updated interior with a host of screens and a revised underpinning along with a completely rejigged powertrain. The new Evoque is the first Land Rover to get mild hybrid technology.

The new-gen Jeep Wrangler is more modern in every way, yet it carries the iconic styling. It has been spotted undergoing tests on Indian roads on many occasions already and should be launched in India in 2019

Porsche Macan facelift

The mildly updated Macan has gotten a few nips and tucks for a fresh style while the tail sports the all-new LED-bar design from the Cayenne. Porsche has decided to ditch diesel powertrains and hence, the Macan will be powered turbocharged petrol engines even when it arrives at our shores.

The 992-gen 911 is bigger, better and ‘more digital’ than the older model yet looks almost identical. The rear gets a single-strip LED taillight along with a variable rear spoiler. The turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six still sits behind the driver and gives the new 911 its precise yet tail-happy characteristics.

The second-gen S60 becomes the first Volvo to give up diesel engines for good. Based on the SPA platform, the S60 carries the ‘Russian doll’ tradition and looks like a downscaled S90. This is a good thing now since both cars can now grab eyeballs on the streets of India.
