Yet another official teaser of the Harrier has been shared by Tata Motors. Today, the SUV shows its drive mode selector. There is also traction control and Hill Descent Control system that can be seen in the teaser. Tata Harrier SUV bookings have opened at company showrooms at a down payment of Rs 30,000. Global debut is set for 2nd December, while deliveries will immediately follow launch in early 2019.
For starters, the Tata Harrier is built on the new OMEGA architecture which has been jointly developed by Tata Motors. It has been derived from the JLR D8 architecture. The Harrier also boasts of IMPACT 2.0 design language while Tata Motors also confirms a new monocoque architecture that offers optimal torsional and bending stiffness promising better driving dynamics both where city and rural road conditions are concerned.
Tata Harrier, being the company’s flagship SUV will receive new features, a powerful engine and will boast of best in class performance. Set to take on higher spec variants of the Hyundai Creta and mid spec variants of the Jeep Compass, the 5 seater Tata Harrier, which was also showcased in concept format at the 2018 Auto Expo as the H5X, will get projector headlamps, LED DRLs, rear parking camera, steering mounted controls, rear AC vents, touchscreen infotainment system and memory function for front seats.
It will also get cooled storage space under front armrests and dedicated smartphone slots for passengers at the rear. Safety features will include a host of airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP with roll over mitigation and traction control among others. Drive mode selector can be seen in the teaser video below.
Tata Motors has christened the engine as Kryotec 2.0. This engine which complies with BS VI emission norms is a new 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine. The name is inspired from the Cryogenic rocket engine.
The Harrier engine produces 140 PS peak power and 320 Nm torque mated to a standard 6 speed manual gearbox. There is no official confirmation on an automatic unit. Production has already started at company plant in Pune. Expect Harrier prices to be in the Rs 13-16 lakhs range.
