Sony Xperia XA2 Plus announced with 6" screen, Snapdragon 630

Sony Xperia XA2 and Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra have been around since January, and now the Japanese manufacturer unveiled a middle-ground solution called Xperia XA2 Plus. It has the same 23 MP MotionEye camera and Snapdragon 630 chipset as its XA2 siblings but is a bit more ergonomic due to narrower bezels and taller display.

The XA2 Plus is the first device in the XA2 line with an 18:9 ratio. The LCD stretches to 6” and packs Full HD+ resolution. It is also protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

The Snapdragon 630 chipset houses an octa-core CPU at 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 508 GPU. The XA2 Plus is offered with either 4 GB or 6 GB RAM and 32/64 GB storage, but there is a microSD slot for expanding it either way.

The 23 MP snapper has a 1/2.3” Exmor RS sensor with 84-degree wide-angle lens and f/2.0 aperture. It supports ISO 12,800 and shoots videos in 4K, but also has 120 fps slow-mo recording.

There is a single camera at the front too - an 8 MP 1/4” Exmor R sensor with a 120-degree super wide-angle lens that has an aperture of f/2.4. There are plenty of features, including Bokeh Mode, Soft Skin, and some other face-altering effects.

The Sony XA2 Plus is 157 x 75 x 9.6 mm and weighs 205 grams, which is a bit heavier than expected. It sports the new OmniPresence design Sony introduced at the beginning of the year. The phone now looks better and will likely feel better due to its metallic back panel.

The battery cell is the same as the one in the bigger XA2 Ultra - 3,580 mAh capacity with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The charging port on the bottom is USB-C and has a noise-canceling mic and a speaker to keep it company. Don’t worry, there is a 3.5 mm jack on the top too.

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus is arriving in four colors - Black, Silver, Gold, and Green. Availability and pricing is yet to be confirmed.
