Nation Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on 70th Death Anniversary at Delhi

 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday attended a prayer meeting on the occasion of the 70th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi along with Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, his wife Gursharan Kaur, Union ministers Harsh Vardhan and Mahesh Sharma, and Gopalkrishna Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and former West Bengal governor at the prayer meet at the Gandhi Smriti here.
 
 

 
 

 
January 30 marks the assassination of 'Bapu' Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in 1948 by Nathuram Godse.
 
 
This day is observed as Martyrs` Day to pay homage to the people who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country.
 
 
Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse, a right-wing Hindu activist, on January 30, 1948 at the Birla Bhavan, which was later rechristened as Gandhi Smriti.
 
 
 
Prayers were led by religious gurus belonging to Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Baha’i, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity and Zoroastrianism.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Modi, Naidu and other dignitaries paid floral tributes at the Gandhi Smriti.
 
 
Students from schools all over the country organized a 7 poem theme prayer under the guidance of sh. Sudhanshu Bahuguna the mentor and guru of World renowned Kailash Kher. Some of the schools which participated in the event were Billabong High International School noida, Gaurs International School Greater Noida, Greenfield school Delhi, Modern Public School, Aster International School and many other top school from delhi, noida and rest of India.
 
 
 
 
 
The prime minister also interacted with students present at the event.
 
Earlier in the day, Modi paid homage to Gandhi and recalled the sacrifices made by those who laid down their lives for the country.
 
“Remembering Bapu on his Punya Tithi,” he said in a tweet.
 
 
"On Martyrs` Day, we gratefully remember Mahatma Gandhi and the countless freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices their all for our Independence," President Kovind tweeted.
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter and said, "We bow to all those martyrs who have sacrificed themselves in service of our nation. We will always remember their courage as well as their dedication towards the nation."
