The post hints at Android Runtime support, which means native Android apps could run on Fuchsia
Ever since Google announced its plans with a new operating system called Fuchsia, there was speculation about its plans to eventually halt Android development. Google was quick to dispel these concerns. According to a new find by senior member forkbomb444 at XDADevelopers, a new entry on the Android Open Source Project page for Fuchsia hints that code commits are currently being discussed around support for Android apps on Fuchsia.
The post hints at Android Runtime support, which means native Android apps could run on Fuchsia. The operating system was revealed in August 2016, without an official launch. In contrast to Android and Chrome OS which is based on a Linux kernel, Fuchsia is based on a new microkernel called Zircon. Fuchsia is capable on a range of devices such as embedded systems, smartphones, tablets and personal computers.
Although Chrome and Android are currently two different operating systems, the creation of a far-reaching operating system such as Fuchsia could help Google have one consistent operating system across product categories. In addition to smatphones, tablets and computers, Fuchsia could also find its way into car infotainment systems and traffic lights.
Google Fuchsia probably still has a few years before it becomes a popular operating system for consumer products. Meanwhile, at Google I/O 2018, Google will be making announcements around the next version for its mobile operating system – Android P.
