BS6 Toyota Innova Crysta launched at Rs 15.36 lakh

In BS6 form, the Toyota Innova Crysta's 2.8-litre diesel motor is discontinued, but carmaker retains the 2.4 diesel; prices spike by Rs 11,000-1,12,000.

As we’d exclusively reported last week, Toyota has opened bookings and revealed prices for the BS6 Toyota Innova Crysta, with prices starting at Rs 15.36 lakh for the base petrol-manual variant, going up to Rs 24.06 lakh for the top-spec diesel-auto model.

The Innova Crysta has long since been the mainstay in Toyota’s India line-up, and the switch to BS6 compliance brings with it a major hike in price. While the standard BS6-petrol Innova Crysta is anywhere between Rs 11,000 to Rs 43,000 more expensive, prices for the standard Innova Crysta BS6 diesel are up by Rs 39,000 to as high as Rs 1.12 lakh.

The two BS6 Innova Crysta Touring Sport petrol trims, meanwhile, are both pricier by Rs 11,000. The diesel Touring Sport trims, however, are pricier by Rs 39,000 and Rs 80,000 for the ZX and VX variants, respectively. Also worth noting is the fact that Toyota has billed these prices as 'introductory', so they will almost certainly rise higher in time.

Toyota has chosen to retain just one diesel in the BS6 Innova Crysta – the trusty 2.4-litre unit, which has been upgraded to meet Bharat Stage VI norms with the help of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system and a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The 174hp, 2.8-litre diesel – which was only available with an automatic gearbox – is not part of the Innova range now, in the interest of keeping prices in check. Toyota has also not shared updated power figures for the BS6-ready Innova Crysta, but we shall update this story as soon as we have them.

The rest of the Innova package continues into the BS6 era unchanged. There are no other cosmetic or mechanical changes to the MPV; the only notable difference is that the 2.4-litre diesel – which could previously only be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox – now also comes with the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox as well.
